Accepting our bodies just as they are
I read this quote yesterday and it caused a little sun to explode light in my mind.
“The body’s primary function is to communicate love.”
~ A Course In Miracles
Whoa
I found this wisdom so liberating; an Ah Ha moment, as Oprah says. So often, we don’t relish what is happening with our bodies and we wish to change them.
Sometimes we are troubled by aging, sometimes pain, disease, or stress and anxiety. We try to strengthen our muscles and we try to take the best care of ourselves that we can, but this quote frees us to smile and relax while we try for optimal health, for our bodies have already fulfilled their ultimate purpose. Today, on this ordinary day, we can communicate love to everyone around us. We can do this laid low with the flu on the couch, or from a hospital bed. My Dad’s love pours out of him incredibly well from his recliner chair where he sits a lot now with Parkinson’s, having said goodbye to so much that he once loved in his life; tennis, skiing, doctoring, running, ushering at church and flying. He is my hero of surrendering and he is the light coming into the world. He communicates his love for all of us with very few words though the ones he choses are of gratitude, a good joke sometimes and a good hand hold. My Mom shows her love by doing anything for us; sewing on the loose button, hemming the dress, or hopping in the car to keep you company on a trip to NYC or Vt.
Take one deep breath in and out; and picture bathing your each of your wonderful cells in the oxygen of this beautiful moment right Now. Practicing this acceptance of our bodies, these moments, and these people just as they are, helps us become aware of so much including; the different ways the people around us communicate their love and the goodness and depth of this tiny moment.
“If at its end, the life you are living takes on the attributes of Art, it doesn’t matter if you forget where you put your reading glasses.” ~ Paris In The Present Tense
What is Art? Great Art is born out of the Source of all Love; The very same source all of us came from and to which all of us will return. True transcendent art illuminates our common humanity and divinity. We are whole just as we are. No need to change a thing, just look deeply to see who the person in front of you really is and communicate your love for them with kind words, a joke, a hand squish, time spent, dinner brought over, or a tiny gift. Your body is beyond blessed by doing these things. Maybe, says the physical therapist, with a pause, even more than exercising.
