A Light Aside

“The deepest happiness is made of the smallest things” ~Friedrich Nietzsche

Mindfulness is training our attention to concentrate on the Here and Now. It is learning to quiet our minds from its constant chatter; thinking about the past or wondering about the future. To practice watching the mind might be the greatest gift we can give ourselves. People who meditate have been shown in studies to be happier, more resilient, and less prone to diseases such as Alzheimer’s, cancer, and heart disease. Wow!

Here is a quick, easy and beautiful way to begin…

Sit outside.

Sun shining on one side of you.

Concentrate only on getting the sun to shine DIRECTLY into your ear. With teeny tiny little adjustments of your head, you can actually feel the point where the sun warms your very own ear drum! Talk about a SMILER! It feels like light and warmth are illuminating your whole mind. One has to be very quiet, still and patient.

It is miraculous when it happens, being outside in Nature, quiet and still… I think of it as listening to God, but you call the benevolence by any name you feel comfortable with.

This has just got to be amazingly healthy! It certainly is a joy:) I did this today, sitting on our dock. There are many ways to meditate! Find the one that works for you. I can tell you about the ones I know in  later posts. Right now, I have to go to work; to stomp put pain and suffering as my Dad says:)

“Can you feel the depth, beauty and aliveness in this  present moment?” ~Eckhart Tolle
