Happiest hernia month

The scenery that I have been healed by this month. Picture by Elena Woodard.

Well! We sure can learn a lot from every experience. My umbilical hernia surgery has taught me so much about my core strength and well being. One month before my surgery, I signed up for the most wonderful online class from the tummy team. Kelly Dean is an MPT in Washington and I was so impressed with her work. The class I took was called Core Preparations.  I highly recommend it to anyone with an upcoming abdominal surgery. The class helps you strengthen your core and so sets you up for the best possible surgical outcome. It is all about connecting your life activities to your transverse abdominals. We PTs call the transverse abds your “God given girdle”; in other words, their mission in Life is to support your low back … that means less pain.

After doing the exercises and living with my lower abdominals pulled in (away from the zipper in your pants) as often as I thought of it, for one month, I went to my preop physical…. I was an inch taller! My MD and I couldn’t believe it, but Kelly Dean could; the same thing happened to her. Pretty miraculous diet~wellness program… you can continue at your same weight but grow an inch! That’s right; stronger, taller and leaner.  TA DA! Their courses would actually be wonderful for everyone. I do feel stronger and healthier than ever. I am going slower than normal, really sticking to the medical advice of NOT lift anything over 5 lbs for 6 weeks and enjoying Spring in the air!

     To your health my friends!
